1048 Jazz & Blues in Montgomery loses food permit due to health score
Action 8 News has confirmed that a well-known Montgomery nightspot has lost its food permit due to a recent health score.
1048 Jazz & Blues on East Fairview Avenue received a health score of 58, according to Ryan Easterling of the Alabama Department of Public Health.
Easterling said an Emergency Order of the Health Officer was issued, which suspended the food permit for 1048 Jazz and Blues on Friday, September 5, due to its score being below a 60.
He said when a permit is suspended for a score below 60, the Rules for Food Establishment Sanitation requirement for reopening is a score of 85 or above as long as there are no priority or priority foundation items on the inspection report.
Action 8 News has also learned that the nightclub has filed for bankruptcy protection. According to court documents, Hospitality Management Associates, Inc., who operates 1048 Jazz & Blues, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on September 3 in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Alabama.
As Action 8 News reported last month, 1048 Jazz & Blues may be at risk of losing its liquor license following a series of complaints from residents about safety concerns and ongoing public nuisances. The Montgomery City Council voted to require 1048 Jazz & Blues to close at midnight for the next 60 days. After that, the council will review whether it will be allowed to keep its liquor license.
