Pike Road student does her part to help Friendship Mission
A Pike Road Intermediate School student launched a campaign to help people at Friendship Mission.
Holley Amburn came up with what she calls the “Holley Jolly Stocking Project.” She and her mother gathered donations to make 100 food bags and 100 hygiene bags for people staying at the shelter.
“It’s Christmastime and it’s all about giving than receiving, and people who are less fortunate, they depend on receiving than giving so I just wanted to give to them,.” Holley told Action 8 News.
“We’re just so grateful for her and for her family’s support, because they had to get behind her to wrangle all of the supplies,” Tara Davis, executive director of Friendship Mission, said. “But it ended up not just being a toothbrush and a pack of noodles. She got hand warmers and gloves and she really put thought into her project to make something for someone who is struggling right now.”
Friendship Mission’s men’s homeless shelter is at full capacity, while the women and children’s shelter is near full compacity.
