Montgomery police issue New Year’s safety message
As you prepare to welcome 2026, the Montgomery Police Department has these reminders on how to stay safe and obey the law:
Celebratory Gunfire
• Celebratory gunfire is illegal and dangerous in Montgomery
• Bullets fired into the air come down with lethal force and can cause death, injury or property damage
• City ordinance prohibits discharging firearms in city limits and violations carry fines and jail time
Fireworks and Explosives
• Possession or use of fireworks and explosives is prohibited under city ordinances
• Fireworks can cause serious physical injuries including burns, eye damage and amputations
• Fireworks misuse often leads to property damage from accidents and fires including house fires and vehicle fires.
Safe Celebration Option
• Neon Nights New Year’s Celebration at Riverfront Park on Wednesday December 31, 2025
• Gates open at 9:00 PM and all patrons must pass security screening
• Only clear bags allowed and no coolers permitted
• Juveniles under 18 must be with an adult and ID checks required
• Intoxicated persons will be removed
