Nine year old girl shot in gunfight at Selma apartment complex
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The Selma community is rallying behind the family of a child who was hurt in a shootout at an Selma apartment complex.
The gunfight happened early Saturday morning at Chanticleer Apartments. It had one of the families who lives at the complex — ducking and hiding for safety inside their apartment.
Lacamian Russell says after the gunfire stopped — she was horrified to find out — that her 9 year old daughter had been shot.
“And I seen her body, her body was coming towards me dragging her little body and I seen the blood. And she was like ma please help me. Please help, help ma. Help. And she was like it burns, just stop it from burning,” said Russell.
The child was treated for her injuries at a Birmingham hospital — and has been released.
“This need to stop. Like when is it gon’, like how many people gotta die or get hurt for it to stop.”
Selma City Schools is rallying around the family to help them get through the ordeal.
“We want to make sure that the family feels supported during this difficult time, and also respect their privacy,” said Dr. David Scott.
“And so, one of the most important things we can do is let them know that we’re here for them.”
“It just make me feel loved. Make my kids feel like somebody care about them,” said Russell.
Selma Police are investigating the shooting — but so far no arrests have been made.
