It may not be a big deal to some, as to where the American Flag at the Bullock County Courthouse is located, but it is to Bullock County Commissioner Alonzo Ellis.

“At the time when they put the flag and the monument there, the tree wasn’t that big but over time the tree has grown,” says Ellis.

Right now the flag isn’t visible to most in downtown Union Springs which Ellis and others see as a problem.  He has discussed the issue with other officials and the local historical society but there still hasn’t been a solution.

“Its important that we see our flag at the building that houses our local government and its important that, that flag is in good shape,” says Faye Gaston.

As the county gets ready to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2016, that flag is very important.

“If you going to have a flag, have it where the people can see it I think thats the important thing. I don’t think we need to have a flag…Just like the scripture says, it says why should you have a light and hide it,” says Louis Pugh.

“Thats a bad reflection on the county,” says Ellis.
