Faith In Action announces its agenda for the 2026 Alabama legislative session

Faith in Action Alabama has held a news conference with leaders and constituents from across the state at the Alabama State House to officially launch its People’s Agenda Campaign.

Faith in Action Alabama says it intentionally selected Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, which was yesterday, for this meeting to honor his legacy of nonviolent civic engagement and to affirm the moral responsibility of organized, democratic participation.

The People’s Agenda Campaign centers on three priority areas that reflect the experiences and concerns of communities across Alabama: Building thriving public school systems across zip codes, increasing public investment in low and moderate-income communities and creating a justice system that is fair, effective and accountable.

“What inspired us to come out today at the start of the legislative session is to remind our legislators that we are all here together, we are a very diverse body of people, we believe differently, we think differently about a lot of things and we can all agree that the people of Alabama are not getting treated fairly and equitably by their state government,” Rev. Julie Conrady of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham and Tuscaloosa said.

“It’s important for them to understand that it’s time out for us being silent or being still and this is a watershed moment in our country and in our state and now is the time for us to create policies that help to make Alabama better to help families that are in need and to say to the people of Alabama that you are important to us,” Rev. Dr. Gregory Scott of the Phillips CME Church of Huntsville said.
