Biscuits host ribbon cutting with new owners OnDeck Partners

The Biscuits aren’t normally out at Riverwalk Stadium in January. But on Wednesday night, the Montgomery Biscuits hosted a ribbon cutting with their new owners, OnDeck Partners.

OnDeck Partners CEO Mike Carney told the crowd the organization plans to keep a lot of what the Biscuits are doing intact but also enhance the marketing, suites, infrastructure and add events like concerts to Riverwalk Stadium.

Carney, who brings experience from the Washington Nationals, says he chose the Biscuits to be OnDeck Partners’ first minor league team following a big first impression during his first time in Montgomery.

“I came down Coosa Street and just absolutely loved the architecture,” Carney said. “That’s not necessarily a reason to buy a minor league baseball team. But what we look for are ballparks that have tremendous character. Where there’s a lot of opportunity. It’s in the center of the city. It’s got a lot of great name recognition from the community. And really is the primary form of entertainment for the community.”

Mike Murphy, the Montgomery Biscuits general manager, said the change in ownership comes at the right time.

“On our own, we’ve kind of gotten to a point where you kinda need fresh eyes on some things, sometimes,” Murphy said. “And for them to be able to come in and look at things that we kinda took for granted, and they’re like, ‘Here, what if you do this and take it to another level.'”

The Biscuits will enjoy their Opening Day in 74 days.
