Behind the Biscuits: Kamren James
Kamren James of the Biscuits got his start playing baseball in the backyard with his brothers and cousins. Little did he know that would be some of the toughest competition he would face. Kamren’s first cousin, Austin Riley, would go on to be drafted by the Braves Organization and then later start as their third baseman.
“You know, when a lot of people hear of Austin, it’s Austin Riley, this big superstar, famous guy from the Braves. But it’s kind of weird, because to me, he’s just a normal guy, and somebody that I grew up with hung out with a lot. Very down-to-earth guy, but even woofle ball in the backyard, he was always better than everybody else. He just had a knack for hitting and a knack for baseball; he was just good at everything he did, and now he’s one of the best in the big leagues,” explains James.
Kamren was also a part of the 2021 Mississippi State National Championship Team. During the final game of the 2021 College World Series, Kamren was playing third base and recorded the final out to help the Bulldogs clinch the title.
“Number one, you always dream of winning the college world series and having that experience, and I think when there was two outs in the ninth inning it’s kind of like how cool would it be to make the last our right here. And for it to work out the way it did and then you start dog pilling it was, I mean, you can’t dream it up any better,” says James.
Your next chance to catch Kamren and the Biscuits will be this weekend as they wrap up their series with Biloxi.
