Auburn woman dies in Lee County crash

A single-vehicle crash in Lee County has claimed the life of an Auburn woman.

The crash happened around 1:14 p.m. Sunday on Alabama 51 near the 101 mile marker, approximately 13 miles south of Opelika.

Troopers say 86-year-old Ann Moreira was critically injured when the car she was a passenger in, left the roadway and hit a tree.

Moreira was taken to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia where she later died from her injuries.

Troopers say the driver of that vehicle was also injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
