Troy University and City of Troy Prepare for Annual Leadership Conference

Troy University and the city of Troy are preparing to empower and encourage with their annual leadership conference that also celebrates Black History Month in February.
“It started with twenty to twenty-five and now we have the entire Sartain stadium filled with people.”
Since 2002, with the aid of notable speakers, Troy University’s leadership conference has enlightened adults and students on how to be effective leaders in their communities.
“They’ve loved the variety of speakers that the conference has and they also really enjoy getting to meet some of our community members,” says Barbara Patterson.
The conference has also provided opportunities for students.
“Some of the students that attended the conference in the past have contacted us and say, “Hey, I would like to speak at the leadership conference,” says Patterson.
Actor Hill Harper Spoke to participants last year. This year’s speakers are Juanita Jones Abernathy and actress Jasmine Guy.
“It’s important for the adults to be there so they can relate, especially to the historical perspective of what has happened in the community and what brought us to where we were and to where we are now,” says Bishop S.D James.Â
Remembering origins and gaining opportunities are just a few goals of this year’s leadership conference.
“We just invite everyone to come out,” says James.
Conference registration has started. Adults can attend for $30 and students for $15.
