The Conecuh County Alabama Extension and ADEM provide rain barrels for Local Use

The Conecuh County Alabama Extension held a workshop today to help residents learn how to use rain barrels in an effort to better sustain the state’s natural resources.
In an effort to teach Alabama citizens how to be better stewards of our land each of Alabama’s 67 counties have an extension office which teaches how to use and protect Alabama’s natural resources these offices also offer, usually at no cost, citizens the confidence to utilize natural resources such as rain water fishing and hunting.
Teaching Citizens the ability to live sustainably by catching rain water to off set water costs for outside use can also come with financial benefits. Statistics show that Alabamians pay upwards of $1,000 annually in water costs.
The U.S environmental Protection Agency reports the average Alabama home uses 9,400 gallons of water per year this is a crisis that could be averted by the use of well and or rain water.
Obtaining a skill such as fishing, hunting, gardening or how to utilize water could not only reduce utility costs it can also lead to residents taking on a simpler path to living life.
Each participant in today’s workshop received a free rain barrel.
