ALEA special agent shot in Montgomery

Action 8 News was on the scene in west Montgomery where an ALEA special agent was shot this evening.

ALEA has confirmed that a special agent assigned to ALEA’s SWAT Team was struck by gunfire during an officer-involved shooting at approximately 5:51PM, according to ALEA Capt. Jeremy Burkett.

The shooting happened in the 4000 Block of Longleaf Drive in Montgomery, which is in a neighborhood off U.S. Highway 80 near the Montgomery Regional Airport.

The special agent was taken to a hospital for treatment.

ALEA says the shooting happened when ALEA’s SWAT Team and officers assigned to the Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit were working an enforcement detail in Montgomery.

The situation is under active investigation. ALEA says no further details are available at this time. It has not been confirmed whether anyone else was injured.

Gov. Kay Ivey posted her thoughts on X tonight:

ALEA says it’s asking for prayers and support for the special agent, the agent’s family and the members of ALEA.
