Alabama Kidney Foundation holds kickoff for annual Kidney Walk

The Alabama Kidney Foundation has held a kickoff for its annual Kidney Walk and Celebration.

More than 100 people came out to the RSA Activity Center in downtown Montgomery today to help launch the annual fundraiser.

The honorary chairs this year are Will and Kelly Wilson of Jim Wilson & Associates. The honorary patient chair is Michael McCurry, the pastor of Unity Worship Center.

The annual walk and celebration will take place on Saturday, May 2, at Riverwalk Stadium. The money raised helps provide essential services to local kidney patients in need, including helping them pay utility bills, medical bills and the cost of transportation to get to and from dialysis.

“This year’s walk goal for the 2026 Montgomery Kidney Walk and Celebration is $185,000, but I have no doubt that with all of our teams, our walk chair leadership, our patient chair, all of the corporate sponsors throughout the area that we’ll beat that goal and exceed like we always do,” Shannon Morrell, the Middle Alabama Regional Director of the Alabama Kidney Foundation told Action 8 News.

The Wilsons presented a check for $10,000 to the Alabama Kidney Foundation to get the fundraising started.

The Alabama Kidney Foundation recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.
