Central Alabama Association of Chinese celebrates the “Year of the Horse”
The Central Alabama Association of Chinese held their Lunar New Year celebration in Montgomery Sunday.
Hundreds came out to be a part of the celebration. It featured an artistic program with traditional Chinese music, dance, and other cultural presentations.
The 2026 year is the “Year of the Horse,” which means more freedom and energy throughout the year. After the performances were finished, those that came were invited to come and eat traditional Chinese food.
There were dumplings, noodles, and other cultural foods to enjoy.
“If you think about American traditions, a lot of times I would probably equate it to, it’s not exactly the same, but like Thanksgiving or Christmas. It’s really a time for families to get together, and for Chinese traditions this is kind of like our Christmas or Thanksgiving. People really get together, and a lot of times we cook a lot of food, so typically for the Chinese, we spend a whole lot of time cooking foods. So, it’s supposed to be a time for everyone to really enjoy, have some relaxation, and enjoy the New Year,” said Zhiyong Wang, of the Central Alabama Association of Chinese.
The celebration brought much of Chinese culture right here to Montgomery, Alabama.
