Montgomery flags to be lowered to half-staff in police officer’s memory
Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed has ordered all City of Montgomery flags to be lowered to half-staff in memory of Montgomery Police Department Corporal David M. Hathcock.
As Action 8 News has reported, Hathcock died Sunday, February 22, from injuries he suffered in an on-duty wreck on November 9, 2025. He had served for 20 years.
“Corporal David Hathcock represented the very best of Montgomery,” Mayor Reed said in a statement. “For two decades, he put on the uniform with courage and compassion, serving our residents with honor. His sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the risks our officers take every day to keep our city safe. Tamika and I are praying for Katie, his daughters, and the entire Hathcock family during this incredibly difficult time. Montgomery stands with you.”
In a statement, Montgomery Police Chief James N. Graboys reflected on Corporal Hathcock’s legacy:
“Corporal Hathcock wore the badge with courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to duty. Throughout his career, he left an incredible legacy within this department, from the generations of officers he trained and mentored, to the countless citizens he protected and served. The impact of his sacrifice for this city will continue to be felt for years to come. He helped shape the culture of professionalism and integrity that defines our agency.”
Corporal Hathcock is survived by his wife, Katie, and their two daughters. The City of Montgomery asks residents to keep the Hathcock family, the Montgomery Police Department, and all who loved him in their thoughts and prayers.
City flags will remain at half-staff through February 28.
Hathcock’s funeral will be Monday, March 2, at the Church of the Highlands on Taylor Road in Montgomery. Viewing will take place from noon until 2PM, with the funeral to follow at 2PM.
