Highland Avenue Elementary Students Celebrate Read Across America Week With Special Guest Readers

Schools across the River Region are celebrating National Reading Month by welcoming guest readers into classrooms as part of Read Across America, a nationwide literacy initiative designed to promote a love of reading among children.

Action 8 anchor Estee Morrison joined the effort by reading two of her children’s favorite books, The Rainbow Fish and Put Me in the Zoo, to Mrs. Thomas’ third-grade class at Highland Avenue Elementary School.

Read Across America encourages schools and communities to work together to support literacy and foster enthusiasm for books among young readers.

At Highland Avenue Elementary, Principal Muhammad and Librarian Bowman invited families, community leaders and volunteers to participate throughout the week by reading with students and supporting the school’s literacy efforts.

National Reading Month is observed each March and highlights the importance of reading in developing strong academic skills and lifelong learning habits.
