KMART

Kmart is shutting down three stores in Alabama, one in the River Region.

The Kmart in Prattville is going to be closed by mid-April. Representatives with the company say this is part of a plan to reduce on-going expenses and transform their business model.
This building has been here for more than 20 years, it’s made a comeback from being hit by a tornado but pretty soon it will be shutting it’s doors.
And the chamber of commerce is working to fill this space quickly.
Amy Brabham, Economic Development Director said, “We have a call center, maybe a business wants to come to the center of town reconfigure that space a little differently. Maybe it is retail, maybe section off spaces do something different. We really are focusing on that corridor….to make sure that whole region is protected.”
70 employees here at this Kmart will be laid off. Kmart representatives say they will receive a severance package and can apply at other Sears or Kmart locations. The liquidation sale at the Prattville location will begin on Sunday.
