Businesses Opening in Greenville

The city of Greenville welcomed a new American Family Care facility last week. City officials are happy to bring the newest business into the city, but are also looking forward to the next franchise that wants to build.
“It’s like a snowball effect, when your town gets going in the right direction, more and more people want to be a part of it,” said Mayor Dexter McLendon. “And that’s what I see with [AFC] Pri-Med opening up. And also we have some more developments going along, right along in that same area. So we’re excited about it.”
Mayor McLendon said the city development has been years in the making.
“It’s what we started to accomplish in 2000, and that was our plan. We’re there now, where the economy’s getting better. You’re seeing more and more people look at Greenville,” said McLendon.
Cecelia Hermann is a doctor with American Family Care. She is also a resident of the city, and has lived in Greenville for seven years. She and her coworkers are extremely excited about the new facility moving in.
“We’re happy to be here! Everybody is excited about being here, and I think we can really make a positive influence on the community and provide a service, which is needed,” said Hermann.
She says having the new growth and jobs opening up in her field can only lead to good things for residents.
“Before, anyone from really Fort Deposit, South, through Georgiana really didn’t have any place to go for run-of-the-mill kinds of acute illnesses. Other than the emergency room,” she added. Hermann added that American Family Care has seen almost 20 patients a day since the doors were opened.
McLendon said many residents have asked him what the next business coming to the city will be.
“They’re calling us now. We’ve got a restaurant coming next week to look at us, I can’t call the name at the time right now, but they’re coming. And it would be VERY exciting if they came,” he said.
He added that construction on a Zaxby’s restaurant is slated to start sometime this summer.
