CEO, COO no longer with the Heart of Alabama Food Bank
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Heart of Alabama Food Bank has initiated a search after its chief executive officer and chief operating officer are no longer with the nonprofit.
Officials with the food bank confirmed to Action 8 News that CEO Michael Coleman and Jo Ann Johnson, who was the COO, are no longer with the organization. Coleman had been in that role since 2022.
Reasons for their departures were not made public.
“Our HAFB operations continue without interruption, with our focus remaining on supporting our food-insecure neighbors across our 35-county region. The Heart of Alabama Food Bank is committed to maintaining the trust of our partners, donors, and the communities we serve,” said Varina Mead, director of marketing and communications at the Heart of Alabama Food Bank.
Officials say the Board of Directors chose former Board of Directors President John H. Lucas, Jr. as the Interim CEO while the board begins an executive search for a permanent one.
