Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

OPP, Ala. (WAKA) – Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp has announced that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as it works to restructure its finances.

The hospital says all of its services, including its clinics and emergency room, will stay open.

The non-profit hospital has more than 200 employees on site and another 125 outside of the hospital, and is the largest employer in Opp.

It has an estimated $48 million economic impact.

The hospital says like other rural hospitals, it is facing shortfalls in reimbursements, higher costs and increased regulations with no additional funding.
