Autauga Co. Sheriff’s race headed for Republican Primary runoff

The Republican Primary of the Autauga County Sheriff’s race is headed for a runoff.

Incumbent Sheriff Mark Harrell faced off against three challengers in the race.

Waka Harrellreax0519 Ll VobOn Tuesday, Autauga County voters cut that field of four down to two.

Harrell and Ty Thompson are headed for a runoff.

Thompson received 39 percent of the vote — while Harrell received 47 percent.

Both candidates now have four more weeks of campaigning to do.

“Let’s keep up the fight,” said Harrell.

“You know there’s a lot more work that we can do here at the sheriff’s office in Autauga County. I look forward to it, I look forward to serving the people of Autauga County. I look forward to a debate — to show who the best candidate is.”

The primary runoff is June 16th.

The winner will be unopposed in the general election on November 3rd.
