MGM Runway 5K returns Saturday with races on airport taxiways and runway

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — Montgomery Regional Airport’s new executive director says baggage claim renovations are expected to be completed by the end of June.

In the interview above, Loyd Jenkins spoke with Action 8’s Estee Morrison about ongoing improvements at the airport, including updates to the baggage claim area and several economic development projects underway.

Jenkins also encouraged the public to participate in the 3rd Annual MGM Runway 5K, scheduled for Saturday, May 30, at 7:30 a.m.

The race features a closed course on the airport airfield, giving participants the opportunity to run or walk alongside active aviation operations. Organizers say racers will travel on Taxiway Bravo Echo and the southern portion of Runway 3-21, located beside the airport’s active runway.

Participants will also be able to view aircraft taking off and landing during the event.

Airport officials say the event offers a unique opportunity for runners to experience airport grounds and views of the Montgomery Regional Airport terminal.

The race is limited to the first 300 participants. Children ages 14 and younger must be registered and accompanied by a registered adult. Children 5 and younger may participate free with a registered adult.

Registration is required for all participants. More information and registration details are available here.
