SAFE FROM THE STORM (WAKA) – Action 8 News has a series of special Extra reports to prepare you for the 2026 hurricane season, which is now underway.

One mistake that people in our area make is to assume that hurricanes are only a problem for people who live at the beach. As we have seen, hurricanes can cause damage and major power outages in our area. That’s why we all must be prepared.

This year, we have produced another series of stories so you can better understand hurricanes and get yourself ready:

2026 Hurricane Season Outlook – from Action 8 Chief Meteorologist Shane Butler
Who names hurricanes and why do some names get retired? – from Action 8 Meteorologist Christopher Mathis
Alabama Power has new tool to predict power outages – from Action 8 Meteorologist Ben Lang

Over the years, we have built a complete web page to help you prepare for all kinds of severe weather. In Alabama, it’s not a question of if we’ll get severe storms, but when.
