Turner appeals recount denial to State Democratic Executive Committee

Perry Co. Commissioner Albert Turner, Jr. appeals to the State Democratic Party — after local democratic party officials deny his recount request and election contest.

Waka Turnerappeals0601 VoTurner lost to Marion businessman Donald Bennett in the primary race for the District 1 county commission seat — by a single vote.

Local party officials denied Turner’s request for a recount and subsequent election contest.

“As the Perry Co. Democratic Party Executive Committee Chairman, in accordance with the law which prescribes a 24 hour deadline that Commissioner Albert Turner failed to meet, no further action will be taken regarding the official election results,” said Probate Judge Carlton Hogue.

“If you look at the tally from every box in District 1, you will see that it was a 398 vote tie,” said Albert Turner, Jr.

“My thing is if I lose, I lose. But I’m not going to allow you to try to steal an election from me.”

Turner says a hearing has been set for Friday at 11 am at the State Democratic headquarters in Montgomery.
