CAMPAIGN 2026: Qualifying ends for special primaries in Alabama Senate Districts 25 and 26
CAMPAIGN 2026 (WAKA) – We now know who has qualified to run in the special primaries for Alabama Senate Districts 25 and 26, which cover Montgomery, Elmore and Crenshaw counties.
In the District 25 race, Democrat Phadra Carson Foster has qualified, as well as incumbent Republican Sen. Will Barfoot.
In District 26, incumbent Democratic Sen. Kirk Hatcher has qualified. No Republican is in that race.
These districts had their lines changed by the federal courts, along with Alabama Congressional Districts 1, 2, 6 and 7 in order to give Black voters a greater chance at representation. Last week, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled to allow the state to return to its original 2021 map for the senate districts.
Most of the attention has been on the Congressional districts, which will also have special primaries on August 11.
