The shooting happened on Ann Drive at around seven Friday night.

Authorities say when deputies arrived on the scene — they found 24 year old Corey Ray — wounded in his car.

“When we arrived he was still conscious and he was later transported by MedCare to J. Paul Jones Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased,” said Deputy Trenton Gulley.

“From our investigation it was a tussle over the handgun, which the handgun went off, hitting the victim, shooting the victim.”

Higginbottom is being held in the Prince Arnold Detention Center without bond — pending a bond hearing.
