Town of Georgiana celebrates 47th Hank Williams Music Festival
Over the weekend, the town of Georgiana celebrated the 47th annual Hank Williams Music Festival.
The famous music festival is in honor of the legendary country singer and Georgiana native Hank Williams who left a lasting mark on country music. Many singers and musicians play at the festival each year, and people from all over the world attend. The Hank Williams festival takes place every year on the first Friday and Saturday in June and is the largest tourist attraction for the town. All proceeds from the festival support the Hank Williams museum.
“Not only do we have just the festival going on, we have the museum,” stated Hank Williams Festival committee member Tracy Salter. “We also have a variety of vendors located in the park so we encourage people to come and just mingle and shop and see what they have to offer as well.”
The festival brought in so many country music lovers this year that all of the surrounding hotels and motels were completely booked up for the weekend.
“The Hank Williams Festival has been a vital asset to the city of Georgiana for years,” stated Butler County Chairman Commissioner Joe Peavy. “We as a younger group, I’m not as young as some, just want to keep it going and it’s been very important to this community and this county for a number of years.”
