What The Tech App of the Day: Record Club
BY JAMEY TUCKER, Consumer Tech Reporter
Record Club Is Like a Social Network for Music Lovers
Music fans have never had a shortage of apps for listening to songs. But there haven’t been many places to talk about albums, rate them, and discover new music through other listeners. That’s the idea behind Record Club.
The free app is designed for people who love albums. Think of it as a cross between a music journal and a social network. Users can rate albums, write reviews, build lists, and keep track of what they’re listening to.
If you’re familiar with Letterboxd for movies or Goodreads for books, the concept will feel familiar. Record Club gives music fans a place to document their listening habits and share recommendations with others.
Getting started is simple. After creating an account, users can add their favorite albums, showcase what’s currently in rotation, and create custom lists based on genres, artists, decades, or any theme they choose.
One of the most useful features is the listening queue. When a friend recommends an album or you stumble across something interesting, you can save it for later instead of trying to remember it.
The app also includes a social component. Users can follow friends, browse reviews, discovernew albums, and see what others are listening to. It’s a fun way to find music that may never show up in a streaming service’s recommendation algorithm.
Record Club doesn’t actually stream music. Instead, it’s focused on helping users organize, discuss, and discover albums. Think of it as a companion app for music lovers rather than a replacement for Spotify or Apple Music.
According to research from Parks Associates, nearly seven in ten smartphone owners stream music on their phones every day. While most of us spend plenty of time listening to music, Record Club gives fans a way to keep track of the albums that matter most. For casual listeners, the app may offer more features than they need. But for anyone who enjoys ranking favorite albums, writing reviews, or discovering new music through recommendations, Record Club is worth checking out.
Record Club is available for free on iPhone and Android and on the web.
