Auburn man charged with manslaughter after struck pedestrian dies

AUBURN, Ala. (WAKA) – An Auburn man has been arrested on a manslaughter charge in the death of a pedestrian.

Police say 28-year-old Michael Alexander Sherrill had originally been charged with second-degree assault after police say he struck a pedestrian with a vehicle on June 25. It happened in the 200 block of West Magnolia Avenue.

Police say the 68-year-old man who was struck has since died of his injuries. His name hasn’t been released.

As a result of the victim’s death and the continued investigation, the charge against Sherrill was upgraded to manslaughter. Sherrill was taken to the Lee County Jail where he is being held on a $25,000 bond.
