CAMPAIGN 2026: Jerry Carl wins Republican nomination for U.S. House District 1

CAMPAIGN 2026 (WAKA) – The Associated Press has projected that Jerry Carl will win the Republican nomination for the U.S. House District 1 seat.

Carl formerly held that seat, and has won it in a four-candidate race.

With 99% of precincts reporting, these are the unofficial results:

Jerry Carl   23,325   75% – projected winner
Austin Sidwell   5,505   18%
John Mills   1,815   6%
Lucas Burger   580   2%

He will face Democrat Clyde Jones in November. Jones was the only candidate in the Democratic primary.

Carl was Alabama’s 1st District Congressman after winning the seat in 2020 and being re-elected in 2022. He lost to Barry Moore in 2024. Moore was Alabama’s 2nd District Congressman,  but because courts changed the district lines, the two Republicans found themselves in the same district battling for one seat.

Moore didn’t seek re-election this year because he is running for the U.S. Senate and is the Republican nominee in that race.
