CAMPAIGN 2026 (WAKA) – The Associated Press has projected that Ammie Akin will win the Republican nomination for U.S. House District 7.

Akin held a wide lead over David Perry, the other candidate in the Republican race. As the race was called, she held about 75% of the votes.

Akin is a longtime educator in the Birmingham area. District 7 includes part of the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa area and all of the West Alabama counties in the Action 8 viewing area.

She will move on to face Democratic U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell on November 3. Sewell first won the seat in 2010.
