CAMPAIGN 2026: Hampton Harris finishes second in U.S. House District 2 Republican primary
CAMPAIGN 2026 (WAKA) – Hampton Harris finished in second place behind Rhett Marques in the Republican primary for U.S. House District 2, but hopes to help Marques win the seat in November.
Harris told Action 8 News that he has already spoken with Marques to congratulate him on his victory.
Harris held a watch party with family and friends in Pike Road tonight. He had been the only Republican candidate in the race earlier this year, but once the district lines were changed to make it more favorable to Republican candidates, this 29-year-old candidate found himself in the middle of a six-person field.
Still, he says he’s behind the Republican Party 100% and is happy the district lines that had been put in place by the federal courts were changed back to what they had been earlier this decade.
“I was very excited to get lines that our legislature decided to use, rather than some court in Washington DC,” Harris told Action 8 News. “Ultimately, I’m for making sure that the people of Alabama have a voice and that we are heard. So when Alabama and the legislature gets to vote on something, I think that’s much more beneficial to the state because it’s Alabama saying it and not someone imposing it.”
