Man dies while in custody at Montgomery Municipal Jail
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – An investigation is now underway in Montgomery after a man in custody on misdemeanor charges dies at the Montgomery Municipal Jail.
Montgomery police say around 6:13 a.m. Monday, jail staff transported 63-year-old Roosevelt Sankey II, to the onsite infirmary during a medical emergency.
Authorities say despite all life-saving efforts from staff and paramedics, Sankey was pronounced dead.
Sankey had been booked into the jail 10 hours prior to the incident.
In accordance with standard procedure, MPD says it has turned over the external investigation to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
