Valentine’s Day is not usually a day associated with a shooting range, but that is exactly where many couples chose to spend the romantic holiday.

VALENTINESGUNS PIC 3Couples like Jennifer Black and Michael Cook cannot imagine spending the day anywhere else. The couple started going to shooting ranges soon after they met.

“She knew that I was a hunter, so obviously guns are going to be a part of that,” said Cook. “And that was something that, then I took her out and we tried it out together.”

“Certainly, trust is a big element to it, he went through all the safety with me the very first time we went out on a range together and it’s nice that that’s something we can do together,” added Black.

The couple of six years is not alone in their unusual way of spending the romantic holiday. Co-Owner of the Montgomery Indoor Shooting Complex, Lilly Gibbs, said couples come to the range to demonstrate how much they trust one another.

“You definitely have to have a trust issue when it comes to firearms, because it is an activity with a little bit of risk to it,” Gibbs said. “And so you’re saying to each other, ‘I trust you, enough that you know this is going to be a safe activity for me.'”

Gibbs does not have the final numbers on how many couples came to try out the range, but said that based on Valentine’s Day numbers in the past, she expects well over 300 customers. Black and Cook both agree that the Montgomery Indoor Shooting Complex made the special day even more special.

“We were surprised when we saw the Valentine’s Day package that was offered. That was really interesting,” Black said.

“It is different, It’s not just going out for dinner, or something like that. It’s fun. Different,” Cook added.”Oh, love is in the air, for sure!”

Gibbs said the Valentine’s Day special is girls get in free with a date, but added that anyone can bring a mom, sister, aunt or a group of girls can come together. As long as one member pays for a shooting time, a lady can shoot for free.
