ONLY ON 8: Political Analyst Steve Flowers on what it will take to win the U.S. House District 2 seat
ONLY ON 8 (WAKA) – The race for Alabama’s U.S. House District 2 seat isn’t just one of the most watched races in our area, but one of the key battles in the entire country.
Democratic U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures hopes to win a second term. When he was first elected in 2024, the district lines favored a Democratic candidate. Since then, the lines have been redrawn to favor a Republican. Not only that, but Figures, who is from Mobile, no longer lives in the district.
Republican Rhett Marques, who is from Enterprise and serves in the Alabama House of Representatives, hopes that will give him the edge.
Action 8 Political Analyst says the strategy for Figures is to focus on Montgomery County, the most populous county in the district and the one were the most Democratic votes can be found. In contrast, he says Marques should put his attention on the Wiregrass counties of southeast Alabama.
The reason this race is so important nationally is because it could help determine which political party controls the U.S. House of Representatives.
