Woman convicted of killing husband in Troy
TROY, Ala. (WAKA) – A woman has been convicted of shooting and killing her husband in Troy three years ago.
According to District Attorney James Tarbox, after a trial that lasted for days and three hours of deliberations, a jury convicted Tyiesha Pollard in the death of her husband Quinta Maddox.
Testimony and evidence presented at trial showed that Troy police and Troy Fire and Rescue responded to a pickup truck crash on Pine Street on September 3, 2023. Police couldn’t identify the injured driver and started an investigation. Police say that took them to the home in the 600 block of Pine Street where they say they spoke to Pollard.
They say during the meeting, she never said anything about a shooting and told them to go to the Brantley Mobile Home Park to get information about the wreck. Police say their investigation led them back to the home on Pine Street and that’s where they found blood on the ground and bullet marks on a wall of the house.
Testimony showed that when Pollard was formally interviewed, she said Maddox had attacked her. At first, police say she told them that she pulled out a gun and then said that Maddox had the gun, then said there was a fight for the gun and Maddox ended up being shot.
Police say Maddox had been shot before he was found in the pickup truck. He later died at a hospital.
Prosecutors say Pollard told police that several shots were fired inside the home and that there was a fight in the home. They say a search of the home revealed no evidence or suggestion of a struggle or fight. They say there was only one bullet hole inside the house and it was next to the back door and showed that the bullet traveled from inside the home toward the outside.
Detectives were unable to determine an exact location of where the gun was fired because they say Pollard picked up all of the shell casings and threw them in the trash, but all evidence showed that multiple shots were fired outside the home. They say Pollard had no marks or injuries on her body that would indicate any type of physical attack being committed against her.
Prosecutors say an autopsy showed he had been shot twice, once in the leg and once in the back.
Pollard will be sentenced on November 12.
