Science meets play at free STEAMtopia event in Montgomery on Oct. 31
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — What happens when you turn a banana into a musical instrument? At STEAMtopia, kids can find out — and discover that learning can be just as fun as playtime.
Montgomery Christian School is inviting families to a free STEAMtopia festival Saturday, Oct. 31, featuring more than 30 hands-on activities designed to bring science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics to life.
The event transforms learning into an interactive adventure, giving children the chance to explore new ideas and unleash their creativity in a pop-up children’s museum setting.
Montgomery Christian School Head of School Pam McLemore and Middle School Principal Dinah McLemore spoke with Action 8’s Estee Morrison about the festival and how its activities can help children discover the excitement of science and technology.
One demonstration featured in the interview is the Banana Piano, which uses real fruit and a circuit board to create a working musical keyboard. It’s an example of how STEAMtopia blends science and creativity to make complex concepts accessible to young learners.
The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Montgomery Christian School at 6610 Vaughn Road in Montgomery.
Children in the community through sixth grade are welcome to attend, but they must be accompanied by an adult.
Admission is free. For more information, visit montgomerychristianschool.org.
