Person shot in arm at Riverchase Galleria in Hoover
HOOVER, Ala -(WAKA) — Hoover police are investigating after a person was shot in the arm Friday morning at Riverchase Galleria.
According to Hoover Police Chief Clay Morris, officers responded to a shots-fired call around 11:57 A.M. in the mall’s food court. The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Chief Morris says early evidence indicates that the victim and suspect knew each other and got into a fight, that resulted in the shooting.
During a quick media briefing, the chief said there was no active threat.
“Detectives have already gathered leads and we are confident the suspects will be identified and apprehended quickly,” says Chief Morris. “This is the first incident at the Riverchase Galleria in five years, and the first non-fatal shooting in the city of Hoover this year. We are committed to making sure the city of Hoover remains safe and a safe place to shop, and we will have our officers in place to facilitate a safe experience.”
Parts of the mall near the food court were expected to remain closed for about two hours while police investigated. The rest of the Galleria was expected to be open for business at 1:30 p.m.
Anyone with information about the shooting can contact Sgt. Jerry Edwards at 205-739-7440 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
