CAMPAIGN 2026: State and local election results
CAMPAIGN 2026 (WAKA) – Here are the latest Alabama state and local election results from Action 8 News:
STATE AND LOCAL ELECTION RESULTS
Polls closed at 7PM. It typically takes several hours to count all of the ballots statewide. The Associated Press may announce a winner of a race depending on the results.
The top state and local races are:
Governor: Current U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville and former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones are battling to see who will replace Gov. Kay Ivey, who is term-limited. Tuberville, a Republican, and Jones, a Democrat, last met in the 2020 U.S. Senate race when Tuberville ousted Jones.
U.S. House District 2: Incumbent Democrat Shomari Figures faces Republican Rhett Marques. The district lines that led to Figures’ victory in 2024 were redrawn again earlier this year, which has made the race more favorable to a Republican. Millions have been spent on this race because it may help decide which party controls the U.S. House.
There are also other statewide races for Constitutional offices and other U.S. House races.
U.S. Senate: Current Republican Congressman Barry Moore faces Democrat Everett Wess. This race is to replace U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who gave up the seat to run for governor.
There are some important local races as well, such as those for sheriff, school board and county commission in various areas.
