He will be Alabama’s fourth Republican governor in a row, following Bob Riley, Robert Bentley and Kay Ivey. But unofficial returns from the election show that Tuberville didn’t get the same number of votes as other top Republican candidates:
Governor’s race: Tommy Tuberville:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 872,561Â Â Â Â 51.79%
Lt. Governor’s race: John Wahl:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 911,304Â Â Â 54.30%
Attorney General’s race: Katherine Robertson:Â Â Â 920,412Â Â Â 54.94%
Sec. of State’s race: Caroleene Dobson:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 909,477Â Â Â Â 54.55%
State Treasurer’s race: Young Boozer:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 917,177Â Â Â Â 54.98%
Tuberville didn’t crack 900,000 votes, while other Republican winners did.
Action 8 Political Analyst Steve Flowers interprets that outcome and talks about whether Tuberville will have a good relationship with the Republican-led Alabama Legislature, especially as he’s made cutting the size of state government a priority.
