Gov. Bentley to Sign Winston’s Law Tuesday
Governor Robert Bentley on Tuesday will sign Senate Bill 23 into law.
Senate Bill 23, also known as Winston’s Law, makes aggravated child abuse a Class A Felony for children under six and punishable by life in prison and a $60,000 fine. The legislation was sponsored by State Senator Clyde Chambliss (R-Prattville), State Senator Cam Ward (R-Alabaster) and State Representative Paul Beckman (R-Prattville).
Winston’s Law was named after an Elmore County child whose mother has been indicted on charges for chemical endangerment of a child and aggravated child abuse.
The bill signing ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Governor’s Office.
