People in the Spring Hill Community say its not a church issue but a community issue when it comes to concerns for a proposed bar and restaurant on Highway 167/87.
“There are many curves, hills, and other blind spots that are safety concerns. There have been many lives loss in accidents on Highway 167 and 87,” says resident Leon Fortune.
People in the area say they don’t want any more accidents, especially if they are caused by alcohol.
“If alcohol is served and consumed on the premises, there’s always the possibility of driving with impaired judgement.”
Dickens used to own Sweet Rack Rib Shack in Troy but now wants to open a pub in Pike County and he says safety issues have already been addressed.
“One of the things I should point out is that this used to be an elementary school. So when the state did this or built this project. I’m sure they took that into account-I’m sure the traffic has increased by now but as far as it being on a hill you’ve got a turning lane out there for safety,” says Dickens.
Dickens has now been denied twice by the Pike County Commission.
“A lot of what they are trying to deny or think that they know about out here is not really what’s going to go on.”
He says not only would his new business generate revenue for the area but also add one more dining option.
A hearing is set for Monday, March 21st on the denial.
