First Responders Get Training to Prevent Sleep Related Infant Death

Thousands of infants die every year from sleep related infant death. Now one first responder is trying to decrease those numbers.

First responders from across the state attended direct on scene training. A program that teaches them everything they need to know about removing items that pose a hazard from a familiy’s home while on a call. aptain James Carroll of Fort Lauderdale Fire and Rescue conducted Friday’s training in Montgomery. He says after implementing the program in his area he noticed a decrease from nine to ten infant deaths every year to only one last year.

“Trying to get as many people aware and understand that its dangerous to sleep with your babies and that when you put your baby to sleep they have to be on their back. They have to be alone inside a crib with nothing else so they can stay healthy and alive,” says Carroll.

SIDS is the number one cause of death in infants from one to twelve months old.
