It’s been one year since six dogs were stolen from the Bullock County Humane Society shelter because of a lack of security features. Since then there’s been some major upgrades.
The shelter is now equipped with a new camera system and fence. Five of the dogs were found safe but one was never found.
The shelter manager said a lot of good has come from the difficult situation. They’ve developed a network of support. People were donating from as far away as Alaska.
“Our operation has just exploded into this network of dog rescuers, cat rescuers, transporters and so forth,” said Bullock County Humane Society Animal Shelter manager, Jennifer Gallagher. Because of the coverage y’all were able to give us we were able to raise $3,000. We had a bid for this security fence that goes all around the kennels for $5,000. Luckily we found this really great company Bravo Grande Fence and gave us this $5,000 for $3,000 because they love animals. So now what we have is a really secure environment.”
April 10th is exactly one year since the thefts. There’s a fundraising event for the Bullock County Shelter being held at Taylor Crossing Animal Hospital.
