Millions of child abuse cases are reported nationwide every year. This month, agencies in Pike County are bringing awareness to the issue. childabuse

The Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center and the Department of Human Resources want the public to help in ending the cycle of child abuse. They say if you see something, say something. Last year the Child Advocacy Center in Troy serviced over 3,000 children for their coverage area of Pike, Bullock, Barbour, and Coffee counties. Officers say child abuse cases can be challenging and sensitive for the children, making it hard to get to the root of the issue.

“Usually a lot of times it may be a case where the abuser is in the home or someone that the child is close to and the children are really afraid to tell their story,” says Troy Chief of Police, Randall Barr.

If you suspect child abuse, you are urged to contact the Department of Human Resources or your local law enforcement.
