Annual Battle of Selma Continues in Selma
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The annual Battle of Selma Civil War Re-enactment continues in Selma.
The four-day event shifted into high gear today, kicking off a full weekend of events and activities.
Reenactors brought the 1860s to life for hundreds of students during two days of school tours, and starting at dusk, canon fire will light up the Friday night sky.
“The canons in the dark — its more like a fireworks display,” said Event Chairman James Hammonds.
“When the canons shoot, you see a flame shooting out about 20-feet from the gun. And they’re firing from both sides so its kind of, its kind of a neat thing to see.”
The annual Battle of Selma Civil War Re-enactment got underway Thursday in Selma.
The four-day event kicked-off with the Living History School Day tour. The tour takes civil war era history — and puts it on display for hundreds of school children.
Students visit numbered stations and learn about different aspects of life in the 1860’s.
“I like how its very historical and it’ll teach you lot’s of stuff that you’ve never known before,” said Meadowview Christian School 6th grader Summer Motes.
The annual Battle of Selma runs through Sunday.
