Saturday marked a historic moment at Wetumpka Elementary School.

The school received a historic marker in honor of Welton Blanton Doby High School. Doby High School was a segregated school in the early 60’s.  The school was segregated from 1963 until 1970.

“It means everything to the school. I mean the graduates that came back, they came as far away as Chicago, Boston, Seattle, and Los Angeles, California says Doby High School Graduate Winfred Wise.

The Doby High School Committee applied for the historic marker in June of last year.
