Just a few weeks ago Mayor Johnny Ford filed an ethics complaint against Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange. This morning Ford announced he will file another complaint, claiming attorney general strange is using the shutdown of victory for political gain.
Ford says strange is trying to secure campaign funds for his political future. Ford also says the Las Vegas gaming industry is responsible for financing and building the three Native American casinos in Alabama, and reopening Victoryland would create more competition. Mayor Ford believes that same gaming industry is making campaign contributions to the Attorney General, and the people of Macon County are suffering.
Last month the Alabama Supreme Court ruled against Victoryland, saying it was legal for the state to seize the electronic bingo machines, but Milton McGregor of Victoryland said that won’t stop him from reopening the casino early this summer.
