A Mississippi woman is walking a journey of a thousand miles to raise awareness about breast cancer, and she’s doing it in an unconventional way.

Paulette Leaphart was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and received a double mastectomy.

She’s doing her walk across the country topless to show her scars.

She left Biloxi a week ago and walked through Selma Saturday.

“Cancer affects everybody. If its not you, you know someone whose affected, either your mom, your sister, your brother, your child. Cancer affects everybody. It doesn’t matter your race. It doesn’t matter your financial situation,” said Leaphart.

She says her goal is to walk one hundred miles a week and be in D.C. by the end of June.
