From the West Alabama Newsroom– The future of the historic St. James Hotel in downtown Selma could be decided by Selma city leaders in the coming weeks.
The city owns the hotel — and has been running it since the management company that was hired to run it — left back in March.
Mayor George Evans says the city is now accepting offers to buy the hotel — and proposals to manage it.
He says several groups have already expressed interest in the property.
“Somewhere during this month of September the council will make a decision as to the future of the St. James Hotel in terms of its management and ownership,” said Evans.
Strand Development Company was hired by the city to manage the hotel just last year. Their contract was terminated after about seven months on the job.
